SCHOLARSHIPS

Black and Gold Spirit Award
~ New in 2022 ~

This scholarship of $1000 will be awarded to an enthusiastic student who is actively

involved in the Nanuet school community. 

This is a student who unites their peers, to encourage school spirit and inclusion

through all student grades and circles.

This person can be nominated by students or staff. 

Nomination form to include a brief description of the students contribution

to the school community as they pertain to the criteria. 

The final selection will be at the discretion of the scholarship committee and the leadership of the

Black and Gold Club.

This scholarship is open to all senior students. 

2022

Jason Wain - Villanova University

Golden Knight Scholarship

This scholarship of $1,000 is for those graduating senior student athletes who have spent at least 2 years on a varsity team, and have contributed to their team(s), and helped make the athlete experience a better one for their teammates.  

 

Requirements for consideration:

  1. Essay:  Tell us how you have improved the ‘athlete experience’ for your teammates in an essay of a maximum of 500 words or less.  What makes you a great teammate? Explain how your experiences on a varsity team has enriched your team and/or Nanuet Athletics. (Please submit 2 copies of your essay:  One with a name and one without.)

  2. Two letters of recommendation from either of the following:  Teacher, Coach, or Administrator

  3. The candidate's family shall be a member in good standing in the Nanuet Black and Gold Club for 2 years.

  4. Scholarship recipient must provide written evidence of acceptance and attendance to an institute of higher learning.

Mike and Karen Achille Memorial Scholarship
~ New in 2023 ~

Mike Achille is recognized as one of the “Founding Fathers” of Nanuet High School. He was one of the first teachers and coaches hired at NHS, in 1958.  Mike Achille worked for thirty years at NHS as a coach, physical education teacher, guidance counselor, father-figure, mentor, and community leader.  Karen Achille came to NHS in 1966 and for over twenty years was a beloved teacher, cheerleading coach, community leader, and spirited mentor to her students.  They both loved living in Nanuet and working at the NHS.  Mike and Karen Achille passed away in 2018.

This scholarship, in the amount of $5,000, is established to honor the lives and careers of Mike and Karen Achille.  It will be awarded to one student who embodies the Achille Golden Knight Spirit of teamwork, leadership, respect for others, integrity, community service, steadfast dedication and participation in NHS athletics, clubs, and other Nanuet School District extra-curricular activities. 

 

Requirements for consideration:

  1. This student will complete the google form, email their resume, and submit two letters of recommendation from any leader including from teacher, coach, community, or religious affiliation.

  2. Deliberation for the scholarship will be based on a point system, with heavy consideration given to community service, school activities, and merit.

  3. This student will have a minimum of a 3.0 grade average.

  4. The final selection will be at the discretion of the scholarship committee and the leadership of the Black and Gold Club. 

  5. This scholarship is open to all senior students who are accepted into a higher level education program or college.

Harvey Conklin Scholarship

The Black and Gold Club recognizes a student athlete(s) for participation and outstanding achievement in NHS athletics.  This senior award is for an amount to be determined by yearly fundraising and the club’s board.  It is based on a point allocation system for varsity participation and contribution, in addition to recipient qualifications below:

  1. Candidate must be accepted to an institution of higher learning.

  2. Candidate much have participated in Varsity athletics at NHS for at least 2 years.

  3. The candidate's family shall be a member in good standing in the Nanuet Black and Gold Club for 2 years.

  4. Candidate or family member shall volunteer at a Black and Gold event or fundraiser within the athlete’s senior year.
